The Madras High Court (Division Bench) on Friday stayed a single judge's earlier order that directed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to issue a U/A certificate to Jana Nayagan. This stay prevents the film's release until at least January 21. Since full hearing is not possible till that date, Thalapathy Vijay's film will completely skip the Sankranthi season.
Individuals from the Tamil film industry have been condemning the obvious politicization of the action drama, an official remake of Bhagavanth Kesari. Actor Simbu, coming out in support of the H Vinoth directorial, wrote, "Setbacks have never stopped you, Vijay anna. You have crossed bigger storms than this. This too shall pass, real Thiruvizha begins on the day the movie releases."
Jana Nayagan, to be released in Telugu as Jana Nayakudu, should come out in theatres in the Republic Day weekend. If not, it will hit the marquee this Summer, after the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The only big release confirmed to hit the cinemas in Tamil this Pongal is Sivakarthikeyan's Parasakthi, directed by Sudha Kongara. After a court ordered that the movie be given U/A, all decks have been cleared.
