Leonardo DiCaprio’s concerns over dying theaters spark familiar reactions

Hollywood icon Leonardo DiCaprio recently stated that he is unsure if the majority of the audience still have the appetite for cinema theaters. He is concerned about the future of cinema halls in the West. “We are looking at a huge transition. First, documentaries disappeared from cinemas. Now, dramas only get finite time and people wait to see it on streamers. I don’t know," he has been quoted as saying by Variety.

Not many are impressed with DiCaprio's fears. Netflix and other streaming giants offer comfort and affordability. If cinema halls are going to be the casualty, so be it. This is what the masses seem to think. "I love watching documentaries on YouTube. I don’t mind switching off movies after a few minutes if I find them boring or if they rely on cheap 18+ tactics. Only a movie with star power, great writer/director or great novel adaptation or reputable review will pass the minimum criteria," a movie buff says. "We are living in a cost of living crisis. So, it shouldn't be shocking that less people are going to go to theatres. Pay everyone what they deserve and make cinemas reasonably priced. Also, make better films," a cinegoer from the US shares.

The arguments made by American audience members are more or less similar to what is taking place in India.
