Animation format for Nani's sequel: Sensible or risky?

The unexpected blockbuster status of Mahavatar Narasimha is making many filmmakers consider animation as a viable format. Sithara Entertainments recently announced Vaayu Putra under Chandoo Mondeti's direction.

And now, director Maruthi is seriously considering making Bhale Bhale Mogadivoy 2 as an animation comedy. A sequel to Natural Star Nani's hit has been mooted for many years. Maruthi readied the story years ago. However, he couldn't take it up for different reasons. Lately, Nani himself has moved on from the idea. With The Paradise and Bloody Romeo, he is looking at big-scale action movies. He has lined up movies with a non-Telugu director, too. His calendar is busy for the next few years. So, there is no way he can do BBM 2. In this context, Maruthi considering the animation format makes sense. It's also inevitable.

That said, making a comedy entertainer in the animation format is fraught with risks. The format suits unusual subjects and rare genres, not run-of-the-mill ones. Baahubali: The Eternal War and the Mahavatar Cinematic Universe, like Vaayu Putra, are not regular stories.
