2026's biggies: Thrilling facts about The Odyssey and Avengers Doomsday

Hollywood is going to witness multiple tentpole releases in 2026. Two standouts, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey and Marvel's Avengers: Doomsday, are generating massive buzz.

Here are four exciting facts about these juggernauts.

The Odyssey (July 17, 2026) marks Nolan's ambitious dive into ancient mythology, adapting Homer's epic. It is being made on a staggering $250 million budget. This one is Nolan's priciest outing yet. Shot entirely on IMAX 70mm film, it used over two million feet of footage. And so much of this footage was captured on real ocean waves to authentically depict Odysseus's perilous voyage. Matt Damon as the cunning Odysseus, Tom Holland as his son Telemachus, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron will be seen in key roles.

Shifting to Avengers: Doomsday (December 18, 2026), Robert Downey Jr.'s shocking return to the MCU is highly anticipated. He will be seen not as Iron Man, but as the villainous Doctor Doom. Directed by the Russo brothers, the film integrates X-Men icons like Patrick Stewart's Professor X and Ian McKellen's Magneto. MCU staples such as Chris Hemsworth's Thor and Pedro Pascal's Reed Richards are part of the epic. The film has been reshot to ensure polished spectacle.

Other major Hollywood releases:

Beyond these, 2026 overflows with major releases: Spider-Man: Brand New Day (July 24), Toy Story 5 (June 19), The Mandalorian & Grogu (May 22), Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (June 26), and The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (November 20) complete the list.
