Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi tanks: Are Vijay's fans to be blamed?

Parasakthi, the Tamil movie starring Sivakarthikeyan in the lead, has tanked at the box office. In this context, director Sudha Kongara has boldly criticised the "rowdy behaviour" by the fans of Thalapathy Vijay, suggesting that their motivated hate campaign against her movie is to be blamed for the low-key response.

Vijay's Jana Nayagan was supposed to be released a day prior to Parasakthi. Due to legal and censor certification issues, the film has been indefinitely postponed. Many argue that Vijay's fans believe that Parasakthi got released only because the DMK ecosystem supports it in view of the impending Tamil Nadu Assembly election season.

Many are shocked over Sudha Kongara's comments. "What rowdyism and goonism? If a film is rejected, it’s because of content not a star’s fan base, especially since his film didn’t even release," wrote journalist Akshita Nandagopal. "Online noise alone never decides a film’s success or failure. If it did, your (Sudha Kongara's) massive online promotions should have worked, but content still didn’t land," wrote a supporter of Vijay. Parasakthi was first slated to be a January 14th release. Its release date was advanced to January 10th, ostensibly to hurt Jana Nayagan.
