Dhruv Vikram's Bison: Director defends caste angle

Bison, starring Vikram's son Dhruv Vikram in the lead, is slated for theatrical release later this month. Made originally in Tamil, it will be released in Telugu as well. The trailer has been criticized by a section of audience for once again using the caste discrimination angle in a "routine" way.

In a recent interview, director Mari Selvaraj was asked about the view that films made on caste-based discrimination only perpetuate it. He told NDTV this: "Most films show some sort of negativity or conflict or violence because they want to create awareness and put an end to it - not to spread it. But why is it when you make films about caste atrocities and discrimination that they don't think it's to put an end to such atrocities? When such films come out, it creates political correctness."

Bison also features Pasupathy, Ameer, Lal, Anupama Parameswaran, Rajisha Vijayan, and others. Nivas K. Prasanna is its music director. The Tamil version will release on October 17, while the Telugu version is coming out on October 24.
