Akhanda 2 can beat OG only if...

Year 2025 started out on a "victory" march of sorts by Venkatesh's Sankranthiki Vasthunnam. The film, defying expectations and overcoming a dual onslaught launched by Game Changer and Daaku Maharaaj, became a massive hit. Till Pawan Kalyan's OG came in September, it occupied the Numero Uno position as Tollywood's biggest grosser of the year. With no Prabhas or Allu Arjun film this year, it had almost looked un-dislodgable.

Is OG going to remain the unchallenged superlative performer of 2025? Or, will it have to concede defeat to some other movie? Film observers say that only one Telugu film has the distinct possibility of pushing OG down to No. 2 position. It's Akhanda 2.

To be released in theatres on December 5, the film's No. 1 position is a big IF. It's contingent upon whether it performs like a Devara in Hindi. OG didn't do well in Hindi, but its popularity was so huge that the audience tolerated ridiculously high ticket praises. Akhanda 2 will have to offer more than what Akhanda did in 2022. Since there has been an overdose of God-themed movies, Akhanda 2 will be rewarded with humongous reception only if its content is novel in unexpected ways. Thaman's riveting score, Boyapati Srinu's mass moments, and Balakrishna's roaring performance won't be enough for it to defeat OG.
