Indra, the factionalist action movie starring Chiranjeevi in the lead, is a bigger beast in Hindi than in Telugu. Not in theatres but on TV.
Sameer Nair, the CEO of Applause Entertainment, has been associated with a number of Entertainment channels. In a recent interview, he revealed that whenever the TRPs of his channel used to see a drop, Indra The Tiger (the Hindi title of the movie) would be telecast.
Indra The Tiger has been telecast on repeat mode hundreds of times. "When I was heading Sahara One (in 2010-11). We had these perpetual, evergreen films: whenever you needed ratings, you could close your eyes and screen them. Indra was one of them," a TV executive once told Hindustan Times.
It is likely that crores of Hindi speakers have watched the B Gopal directorial, which co-starred Sonali Bendre and Aarthi Aggarwal. With music by Mani Sharma (all songs were incredible chartbusters), Indra was one of the biggest Telugu hits of the 2000s.
