Adipurush, starring Prabhas in the lead, was released in theatres in 2023. The mythological action film, featuring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon as Rama and Sita, flopped at the box office.
Nearly two years after its theatrical release, director Om Raut defended it, saying that the film's Telugu theatrical release rights fetched Rs 120 Cr. "My film was pre-sold for that price. Which means so many people actually saw it (in theatres). An artist wants to reach a wider audience," Om Raut remarked.
Adipurush was released in the Telugu States by People Media Factory. The banner is also producing The Raja Saab, the Prabhas-starring horror-comedy. The value of the Adipurush deal surprised many at that time. Some trade reports claimed that the value of the deal was too high and that producer TG Vishwa Prasad lost Rs 30 Cr.
Saif Ali Khan, meanwhile, shared a funny conversation he had with his son while watching Adipurush recently. "I just showed him Adipurush recently. Then, after a while, he started giving me a look. Then I said ‘Yeah, sorry’. He said, ‘it’s okay’. He forgave me," Saif quipped.
