Last year, when theatres were shut down for about nine months, OTT platforms saw an increase in traction. For the first time, Amazon Prime and Netflix became more popular than before in the Telugu States. Aha, the Telugu-only OTT platform, started to rise in popularity. Because there was no alternative, the audience relied on streaming platforms. Ram Gopal Varma came up with the RGV World Theatre ATT. Shreyas ET was also started. Urvasi OTT, Bheemavaram Talkies ATT, among others, were also launched.

With the second wave of the pandemic on, the golden phase for OTTs has recommenced. 'Wild Dog', the Nagarjuna-starrer, is going great guns on Netflix. Karthi's 'Sulthan' is also expected to do great.

The other day, Salman Khan's Hindi film 'Radhe' was announced for a pay-per-view release. It's learned that big-ticket films like 'Vakeel Saab', 'Akhanda' and 'Acharya' are landing superb OTT offers (not direct release, for post-theatrical streaming). This is becasue there is no hope that theatres will be back to normal before July.

It's learned that OTT platforms conducive to small films are going to come up in good numbers in the coming weeks. As many as 10 OTT platforms are on the anvil.
