Dhandoraa positions itself as an "idea-driven narrative that confronts caste, dignity, and human conscience through grounded storytelling", the makers behind the Christmas release said, unveiling the film's interesting trailer. Exploring themes such as dignity, exclusion and belonging, the Loukya Entertainments production is set in a Telangana village where an old woman from a lower caste suffers indignity even in death.
Directed by Murali Kanth, Dhandoraa has Sivaji and Navdeep in central roles. Bindu Madhavi has another prominent part.
Dhandoraa will be released in Nizam by Mythri Movie Makers' Distribution arm, while Prime Show is handling distribution across Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Ceeded territories. Atharvana Bhadrakali Pictures has the rights to overseas market, where premieres will be held starting December 23 in more than 200 theatres.
Just because the narrative of Dhandoraa deals with a serious topic, it's not about things that happened only in the past. "To this day, segregation is a reality in rural India. My film deals with the challenges around the cremation of a dead person. The themes dealt with by Balagam were entirely different. That film was about funereal rituals (and the processing of death). Dhandoraa comes with what happens until the conclusion of final rites," director Murali Kanth recently said.
