The Telangana High Court has ordered that there will be no increase in movie ticket prices for any film releasing before April 19 in the state of Telangana. The court clarified that any ticket price hike must be officially approved and notified at least 90 days prior to a film’s release. This comes after months of policy flip-flops and the politicization of the issue.
Procedural lapses by the Telangana Home Department have been alleged in the wake of hikes for Akhanda 2, The Raja Saab, and Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu. Days after the release of Chiranjeevi's movie, the High Court has issued notices to the Telangana Home Department, seeking an explanation for procedural lapses in permitting hikes for the two Sankranthi releases starring Prabhas and Chiranjeevi.
While February and early April have no major releases coming up, Ram Charan-starrer Peddi is up for a release on March 27. Since the film's release is less than 90 days away, there is no way Mythri Movie Makers and Vriddhi Cinemas can secure special permits.
