The Girlfriend, starring Rashmika Mandanna in the role of a distressed protagonist who turns rebellious, is up for Netflix release post its theatrical release that grossed Rs 30 Cr. The film, directed by Rahul Ravindran and produced by Geetha Arts and Dheeraj Mogilineni Entertainment, will debut on Netflix on December 5.
Since the movie was released in theatres on November 7, its December 5th OTT release means that there is a four-week gap.
The Girlfriend is about Bhooma Devi, a student of MA Literature. Timid and aspirational, she is befriended by Vikram, a lady-killer with the image of a heartthrob. Their relationship stays stable until Bhooma realizes that she is suffocating. What traits of Vikram make her feel he is not right for her? Do they give their love a second chance? Is Bhooma being impatient? Is Vikram in the wrong? The script answers these questions as the story progresses.
