The Andhra Pradesh government is considering issuing a single, comprehensive Government Order (GO) to streamline movie ticket pricing across the state, Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgesh announced on Wednesday. The move aims to end confusion caused by the current practice of issuing separate GOs based on individual film budgets.
Speaking after a review meeting of the Movie Ticket Price Rationalization Committee at the Secretariat, the minister said the proposed policy would introduce a uniform framework for ticket prices applicable to all films. He emphasized that the government intends to strike a balance between the sustainability of the film industry and affordability for audiences.
Durgesh said the policy would be framed after taking into account the views of producers, distributors, and exhibitors. Discussions are planned on big-budget productions, artists’ remuneration, and the possibility of increasing ticket prices uniformly based on predefined categories. Meetings with industry stakeholders will be held shortly to address concerns and finalize recommendations.
The review meeting was held by a committee chaired by the Secretary of the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce, with senior officials from the Finance, Law, Information and Public Relations departments, and state film development bodies as members. The committee discussed ticket pricing norms for multiplexes and single-screen theatres, as well as procedures for price hikes for high-budget films. Its recommendations will be submitted to the government soon.
Durgesh also revealed plans to frame rules on the minimum percentage of film shootings to be conducted in Andhra Pradesh, linking film production with the development of tourism destinations. Once a policy decision is finalized, a new GO will be issued. The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting producers and developing Andhra Pradesh into a major hub for film and television production.
