The High Court of Telangana has asked for a comprehensive report on the recovery of Rs 42 crore, generated through inflated ticket prices for Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu. This directive follows a petition questioning the legitimacy of the revenue collected during the movie's initial theatrical run. Both the Government and GST officials have been asked to submit detailed information regarding the total collections made by the movie.
The legal dispute centers on a memo issued by the Principal Secretary of the Home Department on January 8, which granted permission for special shows to be priced at Rs 600. These shows were held on January 11 night in the Telugu States. Additionally, the government allowed for a general price hike of Rs 50 in single-screen theaters and Rs 100 in multiplexes for the duration of one week.
As per Advocate Paduri Srinivasa Reddy, who filed the petition, the price hike was in violation of a previous court order. As such, differential gross box office collections must be taken back from the makers of Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu, he argued. The GST department and the Telangana government will now submit a detailed report.
