Prestigious project ‘Rudramadevi’, which is directed by Dynamic director Gunasekhar, releases in cinemas on October 9. South Indian top actress Anushka will be seen as a great Kakatiya ruler Rani Rudramadevi, while Stylish Star Allu Arjun will be seen in the role of Gona Ganna Reddy in this high budget India’s first historical stereoscopic 3D bilingual film. This film was made with high-end technical values under ‘Gunaa Team Works’ banner with Smt. Ragini Guna as presenter. On this occasion, an interview has been given by Dynamic director Gunasekhar. Here are the few excerpts from his interview.

What is the reason for making ‘Rudramadevi’ in 3D format? What complications you have faced due to this?
A lot of effort has gone in making the film in 3D format. With the intention to extract good output, we made the film in 3D format with top technicians without compromising in any aspect. We spent lot of time to make the film in high standards. We have taken due care in making India’s first historical stereoscopic 3D bilingual film and we are successful in bringing the effect what we expected with the help of our technicians.

How you got the confidence on ‘Rudramadevi’?
Several producers have suggested me to make the film in Gona Ganna Reddy point of view so that it will give good commercial output. But, Rudramadevi story drew me to the project. It’s an emotional story of warrior queen Rudramadevi. It’s more than a commercial film ‘Okkadu’. I trusted the quality of the story and went ahead to produce the film. I’ve studied ‘Rudramadevi’ lesson in the non-detail when I was in class 8 in Andhra University. When I was working as an assistant director in Chennai, I’ve watched a Hollywood film ‘Brave Heart’. Since then I wanted to make a different genre film.

Why the project got delayed?
No producer came forward to make ‘Rudramadevi’ script as film and therefore I turned into producer. Actually, this project was supposed to go on floors after Okkadu, but none of the producers came forward. The project was getting delayed for years and finally I decided to take the risk and produced it myself. In fact, you can say that I became producer out of no choice. Producers stepped back to invest Rs. 20 to 25 crores for a heroine oriented film in 2004. They suggested me to make the film in Gona Ganna Reddy point of view so that it will give good commercial output. But, Rudramadevi story drew me to the project. Someone should take risk to introduce new technology to audience. We introduced DTS through ‘Choodalani Vundi’. We need to spend Rs 25 Lakhs in those days. We have successfully introduced DTS sound with the encouragement of our producers. Today, there is no theatre without DTS. Similarly, we introduced DI (Digital Intermediate) through ‘Sainikudu’. Now, there is no film without using DI. Today we have digital 3D. These days we can convert 2D formant film into 3D. ‘Rudramadevi’ was shot in stereoscopic 3D format.

We have learnt that you trained in 3D technology?
I took crash course in 3D at London. We did trial shoot in Germany. After gaining perfect knowledge, we went on sets.

‘Baahubali’ has taken the Telugu cinema market to the next level. Do you feel it a plus to the film?
Actually, ‘Rudramadevi’ was started before ‘Baahubali’. We did business even before the release of ‘Baahubali’. I’ve sold the film for the one who came forward by trusting the story. The market range became high after the release of ‘Baahubali’. But, I’ve given the film to the one who I committed before. With the impact of ‘Baahubali’, Hindi version did good business. ‘Baahubali’ was hyped as most expensive film. ‘Rudramadevi’ is India’s first historical stereoscopic 3D film made with high-end technical values.

Is Anushka was the first choice for you?
She is the only choice ever since I decided to make the film. Similarly, Bunny himself came forward to play Gona Ganna Reddy role. Bunny is a movie lover. Even though I have given a flop in the form of ‘Varudu’ to him, Bunny has given me powers to extract whatever I want from him. After scoring huge hit like ‘Race Gurram’, Allu Arjun said to me that he was just a phone call away. It’s his greatness. He acted in this irrespective of his star image.

The film is high on budget. What made you produce such a high budget film and that too in 3D?
The script of ‘Rudramadevi’ is the precious treasure I got. By trusting the story, I’ve invested Rs 8 Crores on the film. Stereoscopic 3D means we have to shoot the film in 3D. It is not possible to convert 2D film in 3D in this format. Two cameras should work at a time and we have to use two lenses for the two. We have to shoot the film after merging two frames. We get high quality output through this process.

Could you brief about where you started and where you ended the story of ‘Rudramadevi’ in the film?
The film starts with the birth of ‘Rudramadevi’. There is a grand victory in ferocious warrior queen Rudhramadevi’s rule. We ended the film there. We have shown the Kakatiya Dynasty. The film should be produced by top production houses such as AVM Studios and Padmalaya Studios. I’m a normal technician. It is really a risky attempt to handle such a huge project. Top technicians like Ilayaraja, Srikar Prasad and Neetha Lulla have supported for the good outcome of the film.
