Veteran actress Rekha, who was in Hyderabad to receive ANR National Award for the year 2019, surprised everyone by speaking in Telugu and said that she wanted to be a part of Telugu movies in the future. Not many know she appeared in movies like 'Inti Guttu', 'Rangula Ratnam' as a child artist and then acted in a film titled 'Amma Kosam' as a teenager.

She remembered how she was drawn towards films after watching ANR's 'Suvarna Sundari "I was mesmerized by the grandeur of 'Suvarna Sundari'. It was the first film I watched and got attracted towards movies at a very young age. I acted as a child artist in Telugu movies ('Intiguttu' and 'Rangula Ratnam'). I spent a lot of time at Annapurna Studios. I used to hear a lot about Akkineni Nageswara Rao garu. I always wanted to be a star like him. On my mother's request, I acted in Anjali Attha's 'Amma Kosam'. It was my only Telugu film after I grew up", Rekha said.

"ANR garu was a great personality. I used to take him as an inspiration. When I was staying in Banjara Hills, I used to stop at a temple on the way to Annapurna Studios. From there I could see ANR garu's house and used to silently pray for a stardom like he had. I didn't know that ANR garu was observing me doing it daily from his house's window. I was in disbelief when ANR garu invited me to his house once and said how he was following my moves. He taught how to nourish body by eating good food and how to nourish mind by putting in good thoughts. I am really blessed to receive this award", she added, saying "Sridevi was one of the greatest actresses in the world. Her talent and the impact she made is unparalleled. I'm glad to be felicitated with this award along with her. I'm sure she and ANR garu is watching this. I believe my future is in Telugu. I want to act in Telugu movies. I want to learn to speak in Telugu fluently"
