Rajinikanth silently confirms sequel to blockbuster

Superstar Rajinikanth has officially confirmed that a sequel to his classic film Padayappa (titled Narasimha in Telugu) is being developed. The project is reportedly titled Neelambari (after Ramya Krishna's character), and story discussions are currently in progress. Rajinikanth assured fans that more updates will be shared shortly.

The original, released in 1999, was directed by KS Ravikumar. Ramya Krishna's arrogant character and her face-off with Rajini's Narasimha was the biggest talking point of the movie, besides AR Rahman's chartbuster songs.

Padayappa 2 feels as strange as Indian 2, though. Like Indian, Padayappa belongs to the 1990s universe. It would take nothing less than 'hatke' imagination to write a sequel. Rajini is in his 70s; it has to be seen if the film will be a family drama with no scope for action and plenty of possibility for coming-of-age drama. Rajinikanth is currently doing Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dhilipkumar.
