It takes pharma companies 12 to 15 years and nearly Rs 300 to 500crore to develop and introduce a new drugsay Pharmacovigilance and Clinical Trial experts Since 1960, one hundred fifty drugs have been taken back from the market due to adverse reactions. Due to which Rs 7500 core spent on developing these drugs has gone down the drain. Seamless synergistic Pharmacovigilance [Pharmaco (medicine) vigilance (watching)] partnership between Patients, Physicians, industries, policy makers, public and media/press helps the development of public health.

Pharmacovigilance is also known as Drug Safety, It is the Pharmacological Science relating to the collection, detection, assessment, monitoring and prevention of adverse effects with pharmaceutical products Pharmacovigilance and all drug safety issues are relevant for everyone whose life is touched in any way by medical sni mentions, informed Dr.Gedela S. Babu speaking at the inauguration of the meet.

Recently, its concerns have been widened to include herbals, traditional and complementary medicines, blood products, biologicals, medical devices and vaccines. Substandard medicines, medication errors, lack of efficacy reports, use of medicines for indications that are not approved and for which there is inadequate scientific basis, case | e ports of acute and chronic poisoning, abuse and misuse of medicines are some of the concerns of the whole world.

Corderence like this addresses issues and helps industry find out solutions he informed Pharmaco (medicine) vigilance (watching) is very important subject. It is in its nascent stage in India. Until sometime ago Hyderabad used to be the Bulk Drug Capital. Similarly, we all though Hyderabad would also become a Hub for Clinical Trials. But, this didn't happen. Samll countries like Singapore, Malaysia reaped rich awards out of Clinical Lakhs of clinical trials happen in America, not even 2000 Clinical Trials happen in India. Government and media must create awareness about Pharmacovigilance.

Fvery medicine is a useful poision. It works well if taken in right does. If there is any variation, it works adversely. Governments must appoint qualified pharmacists in hospitals and drug stores to explain the contents of the drug. Experts informed that it takes 12 to 15years before a new drug is introduced in the market. For every drug to get evolved and accepted it needs so much time for series of tests to prove its efficacy. And Pharma Companies spend anywhere in the range of Rs 300 to 500crore to develop and introduce a new drug. From 1960 till now 150 drugs were taken back from the market due to their adverse reactions. Due to which Rs 7500 core spent on developing thete drugs has gone down the drain.

Pharmacovigilance is just ten years old in India. 3 to 5 per cent of those who are hospitalized are due to adverse reaction of the drug. Over the last couple of decades, advances in biomedical science have generated more new and I ample* medicines to treat a broader range of diseases and conditions than ever before.

Mia is home for more than half a million qualified doctors and 15,000 hospitals having bed strength of 6,24,000 and it is the fourth largest producer of pharmaceuticals in the world. According to various estimates, Adverse Drug Reactions occur in 10-20% of hospital inpatients, accounting for 2-6 % of all hospital admissions, and are among top 10 causes of death in inpatients. Overall incidence of Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) is about 6.7 % and 0.32 %. 15-20% of hospital budget may be spent dealing with fatal drug complications. 30% to 60% of ADRs are preventable. More than 121 m^decines have been withdrawn to endure public safety for the past 40 years.

Extensive use of animal and human for the drug research in the name of Clinical trial is equally contravercial where animals are subjected to risk for testing the new drugs. Incomplete information is often provided for the patient that volunteers for Clinical Trials. Keeping the national as well as global pharmaceutical industry growth, OMICS International is organizing 3r International Conference and Exhibition on Pharmacovigilance & Clinical Trials

Some of the exhibitors include: Doctor of Pharmacy Association, India; Association of Pharmacy Professionals, National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM); Cytel Statistical software & services Pvt. Ltd, Karthikeya Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd; Springer, India; Norwich Clinical Services and Pragati Resorts.
