The 18th Annual General Meeting and the 9th Investiture ceremony of the Incoming Board of the IIID Hyderabad Chapter was held at the Hotel Marigold on the 1st of August 2014. The Guest of Honour was the incoming National President of the MID, Mr. Pratap Jadhav. Also attending were several prominent architects and interior designers of the twin cities.

In her inaugural address, the incoming IIID Hyderabad Chapter Chairman, Ms. Sona Chatwani sketched out her vision for the organization for the upcoming two year term. The two year term, she said, would focus on actively promoting Indian art and craft through the vehicle of the Panchatatva that President Pratap Jadhav visualized, that would be driven through Ideating, invigorating, innovating, integrating and disseminating knowledge of Indian vernacular design across the nation.

Chairman Sona Chatwani stated that the national theme would be integrated into every event of the organization that would include a series of Talks by eminent speakers and designers, workshops, national and international educational tours, seminars and CSR activity specially tailored for the different verticals of the design industry, that include designers, architects, traders, academicians and students. The major thrust would be on developing and promoting the vernacular handicraft industry along with research and documentation of the processes. The other major focus would be to bring more young designers to the forum as they are the future of the industry. The IIID-HRC already has a tie up with JNAFAU to award gold medals to the most meritorious students. This incentive will be extended to include more colleges. Inter-college Competitions, Seminars, Site visits, factory visits and Exchange programs with other colleges will aim at enhancing the skill sets of the design student to make it compliant with industry requirements.

i "The closest thing to my heart", said Sona "are the CSR initiatives. As part of this initiative, we are looking at working very aggressively on the lost and forgotten Arts and Craft of Telangana. We will be working with artisans and craftsmen; going to their workplace in towns and villages; with the idea of reviving and documenting the craft, developing infrastructure and facilitating sales. Another important CSR’activity would be working closely with government agencies on the Sulabh projects and revamping an entire stretch of street in Hyderabad".

The Institute of Indian Interior Designers is the Apex body for Interior Designers in India and comprises of architects, interior designers, Trade members and educationists. The objective of the guild is to bring all the stake holders of the Design profession on a single platform with a view to streamline processes, share ideas and disseminate information about emerging trends in the industry.

From its inception in the year 1996, The Hyderabad Regional Chapter (HRC) has been one of the more dynamic and vibrant regional committees of the country and has been involved in several interesting initiatives and workshops, that seek to increase the level of professional engagement within the industry. The organization with its 400+ strength is known to be among the more professionally run institutions in the country and in recognition of its contribution to the Design World, the Hyderabad Chapter was recently honored with the prestigious and most coveted IIID Best Chapter Award in the categories of Best Administration, Best Reporting and Excellent Fellowship.

At the recently held MID- Hafele Design Awards, Telangana's Hon. Minister for Panchayatraj and Information Technology, Sri. K. Taraka Rama Rao invited the architects and designers of the HRC to involve themselves more closely in the infrastructure design of the newly established State.
