WWF-India celebrates the sixth year of Earth Hour

WWF-India celebrated the sixth year of Earth Hour, the largest environmental campaign in history. The Earth Hour campaign is a people's movement inspiring individuals from more than 7000 cities across the globe to take a stand against climate change, making it the largest voluntary movement ever witnessed in history. The message of Earth Hour 2014 is to make the switch to renewable energy. Six years in the running, the Earth Hour 2014 campaign calls for, individuals to adopt household products powered by renewable energy; organizations to adopt renewable energy solutions to run their business operations and production processes; and governments to promote policies favourable to the production and uptake of renewable energy.Similar to previous years several celebrities and leading organizations have joined hands with WWF-India to pledge their support to Earth Hour 2014 - WWF's global campaign to raise awareness and inspire individual action on climate change.

In Delhi, the event at DilliHaat saw Faridkot and World of Talent will come together to "Jam for the Hour" and pledge their support for the cause.
In Punjab, in a first of its kind activity, elementary school children from Millennium School will participate in flash mobs at Ranjit Avenue and Trillium Mall to spread the awareness of Earth Hour.Apart from the above activity wheat-pasted posters have been put up at strategic locations in the city, urging the citizens to switch off all non-essential lights for 60 minutes.Radio station, BIG FM is also connecting with the youth to inspire all corporate, citizens and institutions to switch off and raise awareness to sustainable lifestyles.

In Hyderabad,WWF-India has been conducting workshops on low carbon development for schools, colleges, government officials and corporates in the state, as a run-up to the campaign. There will also be performances by sand artist Hari Krishna, bands - AlterEgoz, Rootz, ContraBand and Dj Prithvi, Nasr School (Boys) Mime, Guitar Mob and Earth Hour Anthem at the main Earth Hour event.

In Kolkata a musical cruise on the Ganges will mark Earth Hour 2014, with the switch off of both the Howrah Bridge and the VidyasagarSetu on either side. Mir, the Kolkata Brand Ambassador of Earth Hour 2014 will perform at the event, with Mr. Derek O'Brien doing the customary switch off of the event.

In Bengaluru the switch off event will be held at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Electronic City, and will be attended by Mr. Steve Winter, world-renowned photographer and conservationist. With over 500 people expected to attend the event, a large wax candle installation of 60+ will be lit to mark the switch off. KREDIL (Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Ltd.) will also display renewable products in a mobile van, at the event.
