Tarun Tahiliani at FLO, Hyderabad

FICCI Ladies Organisation [FLO] invited the noted fashion designer Mr. Tarun Tahiliani to address FICCI FLU members at The Park, Rajbhavan Road, The topic was From Wharton to Fashion."

Rekha Reddy, Chairperson FLU Hyderabad said that This session has been set up to give our members the information and knowledge about the business of the fashion industry. It will explore the avenues related to it, which women can use to set up an enterprise.

The speaker's inputs will also give us an idea of how to take the passion of fashion and make it a business." She added
Mr. Tarun Tahiliani gave the audience an insight into this intriguing world of fashion, and took them through his journey from the Wharton school of Business to the world and business of Fashion. What was interesting was to note how this ace designer had used these business concepts in the fashion world.

Mr. Tarun also briefed the audiences on the different business options that are linked to the fashion houses. "You don't need to be a designer, to work with a fashion house. There are numerous opportunities linked to this world" he said.
He also showcased few of his latest collection with a brief on the art of draping.

About FLU:
FLO was established in 1983, as a division of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) which is the apex body of industry and commerce in India. Its primary objective was to create a platform that voiced the concerns of women entrepreneurs, businesswomen and professionals and promote entrepreneurship and professional excellence. As an all India organization for women, FLU has chapters in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Hyderabad. Jaipur, Guwahati and Coimbatore with its head office in Delhi. The Hyderabad Chapter of FLU was launched in 2001 and today has over 400 members. FLU endeavors to enhance the various skills of women through its educational and vocational training programmes, talks, seminars, panel discussion and workshop on a wide range of subject. It also focuses on women related legal and social issues like uniform civil code, domestic violence, etc. In its own capacity. FLU interfaces with women in business and the government to empower them in their professional and entrepreneurial endeavors.

The FLO Hyderabad committee members are Rekha Reddy — Chairperson Usha Rani Manne- Treasurer Jyotsna Angrara — Vice Chairperson Padma Rajgopal - Program Mentor Priyanka Ganeriwal Allahabadi —Secretary Ch. Sumalatha - Program Coordinator.

The Chairperson's objective for the year has been "Maximum Information to all members about different industries" and the programs are planned keeping this in mind which in turn will help them choose an area to use, improve their entrepreneurial skills or work in.

The Keynote Speaker Tarun Tahiliani started his professional career with a degree in Business Management from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania. After returning to India, he realised there was enormous potential in the designer wear and couture garments sector in the country. In 1987, he opened the first fashion boutique in India - 'Ensemble', heralding a fashion and retailing revolution in India. He honed his technical knowledge in 1991,with an associate degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York.

He is one of the leading fashion designers in India, is the founder of the Tarun Tahiliani Design Studio. His signature designs are synonymous with high fashion and impeccable sensibility, with style, craftsmanship, quality and refinement as the defining symbols.

The Design Studio creates couture, diffusion, pret-a-porter and accessories, which are Indian in construct yet international in appeal. His collections embody an international look, which is contemporary, chic and personifies grace with élan. His talent has enabled him to transform traditional Indian drapes, textiles and techniques into modern, innovative, structured forms that translate into an international contemporary look.

Tarun Tahiliani held his first solo show in September 1994 in London. Since then, he has held numerous shows at home and overseas. In September 2003, he became the first Indian designer to be invited to participate at the Milan Fashion Week. He has held shows in New York, London, Milan, Tokyo, Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Moscow and Karachi
He has received many awards including the Moet and Chandon Fashion Tribute 2004 Award for Designer of the Year for India. Tarun Tahiliani, whose Design Studio is based in New Delhi, is internationally acknowledged as one of India's best designers, with his creations available in the top fashion stores in cities across the globe, besides his flagship stores in New Delhi and Mumbai and now in Hyderabad.
