Hyderabad, October 15th, 2018: The FICCI Ladies Organisation-FLO in association with IGI-International Gemological Institute and Pavan Mor Jewellers organized a Workshop “Know Your Jewellery” here in the city at Pavan Mor Jewellers today.

Hitindra Mistry, Head of Education of IGI, conducted the workshop. IGI is the largest independent gemological laboratory and appraisal institute with offices all over the world. IGI is 25years old in India has 600 employees working for it.

True red diamonds are the rarest of all-natural colored diamonds. Fewer than 20 natural certified red diamonds are known to exist, and unlike other colored diamonds – which can weigh many hundreds of carats in their rough form and even after cutting and polishing exceed 100 carats – no red diamond has a carat weight of over 5.11, and only three red diamonds in existence weigh over 5 carats informed Hitindra Mistry.

The largest red diamond known today is the Moussaieff Red, originally known as the Red Shield. The 5.11-carat trilliant-cut stone was discovered in Brazil in the 1990s and weighed 13.90 carats in the rough. Its cost as of 2002 was estimated at $8 million, which would put its per-carat value at over $1.56 million – a figure that would likely be even higher if the diamond were sold today, he informed.

The next-largest red diamond in the world is Red Diamond, a 5.05-carat emerald-cut stone originally mined in South Africa in 1927 he said. The Diamonds get appreciated 10 per cent annually, said Mistry. The youngest Diamond in the world is 100 million years old. There is nothing more permanent than Diamonds he added. Diamond industry has shifted from Brazil to India and Israel informed Mistry.

Diamond industry is growing 15 per cent annually and we are growing at 25 per cent said Pavan of Pavan Mor Jewellers. The purpose of this workshop is to create awareness and educate customers. 700 FICCI FLO members will be attending workshops today and tomorrow. We have one workshop every half hour, Pavan informed. Our aim is to reach out 15000 people in both Telugu states together through these free workshops aimed at creating awareness and education. South India is the biggest market for Diamonds. In the South, Hyderabad is the third biggest market after Chennai and Bangalore. In consumption of Diamonds in India, South consumes 65 per cent of the total sale of the Diamonds in the country and Hyderabad takes 25percent share, Pavan added.

The Workshop was organized in three different batches and different timings for FLO members. 35 FLO members in each batch attended the most sought-after Workshop. Diamonds can make a relationship or break a relationship. Nirav Modi duped the Canadian man Paul Alphonso by selling a fake Diamond and Alphonso got into depression when his fiancée broke off the wedding.

Are these big Jewellery brands selling fake diamonds to cover their Marketing & advertising cost? Should Jewellery purchasers go to their family local jewelers like good old days? Women have many such questions in their mind.

FLO women in association with IGI and Pavan Mor jewelers is conducting a " know your Jewellery ' workshop to empower themselves to know whether they are buying real or fake diamonds.

Simple home tests are conducted by IGI expert to educate women to identify fake diamonds from real ones. After the workshop, women will be given IGI personalized certificates with Diamond kits.

‘IGI strives to educate the end consumers about diamonds and the various factors that are associated with it. With an increased challenge in bifurcating natural diamonds from imitations, a seminar like this will help enthusiasts take the right decision while making a purchase.”- Hitindra Mistry, Head of Education, IGI School of Gemology

"In today's time with so many jewelry companies getting busted for selling cosmetic gems in the name of real gems, it is essential to equip ourselves with the knowledge to distinguish the difference.

This workshop is designed keeping that in mind" says Priyanka Ganeriwal Arora Chairperson FICCI FLO Hyderabad.

Workshop “Know Your Jewellery” is a hands-on-session to identify real and Cosmetic Gems, assess jewelry and understand Diamonds as an Investment, Priyanka adds.
