Award winning Hindi film maker Shyam Benegal was felicitated at the 37th A.P.Cinegoers Awards held on the evening of 27th January at Lalitha Kala Thoranam, in Hyderabad. The event, for which Benegal was the guest of honor, was graced by personalities from different fields and included literary great Dr C.Narayana Reddy, politician T.Subbirami Reddy, artists Brahmanandam and Jayasudha, entrepreneurs Ramesh Prasad of Prasad Labs and Saripalli Kondallarao.

"I am really honored to be treated so in Hyderabad where I was born and brought up. I began my film career here. This is the first time that I am being honored in my home town." An emotional Benegal said.

Yester year's heroine Jayasudha, actor Srihari and Lagadapati Sridhar were the recipients for the life time achievement, best actor and special jury awards, respectively.
